How can I search using AskAlix?

AskAlix lets you search through two million UK business listings to find the business, product or service that you need, wherever you need it; you can search for specific businesses by name, or for individual products or services by keyword or category.

Searching for a product or service by keyword

Each business listing on AskAlix features a list of keywords that provide details of the kinds of services and products that the business provides; you can search through these keywords to find the particular product or service that you require.

To search for a product or service, enter your search word(s) into the I need What box, enter an optional location and click the Go Search button. AskAlix will return results that most closely match your search terms; these will be matched according to the location, if entered. If no location was entered, AskAlix will display matching results from across the whole UK.

Searching by business name

AskAlix also allows you to search for a named business by entering your search word(s) into the or Who box, along with an optional location, then clicking the Go Search button. AskAlix will return results that most closely match your search terms; these will be matched according to the location, if entered. If no location was entered, AskAlix will display matching results from across the whole UK.

Searching for businesses by category

As well as searching by name, product or service, AskAlix also offers a category based search, allowing you to select a specific business category to search within.

To search by category, from AskAlix's home page, select the main category that you wish to search in from those listed on the right hand side of the page; AskAlix will display further options, based upon your chosen category.

You can search for a particular category, as well as enter a location to search within; leaving the location field blank will return results from across the whole UK.

Adding a location to your search

You don't need to enter a location along with your search, but doing so can narrow down your search criteria and return a more accurate set of results for your search.

To restrict your search to a particular area, enter a town, city or first part of a post code into the in Where box. AskAlix will then return only businesses that are located in this area, or that have stated they operated in that specific area.

Finding businesses nearest to your location

AskAlix's Near-To function allows you to search for businesses based upon an exact location; these businesses are then displayed in order of distance, allowing you to choose the business that best suits your requirements.

To search using AskAlix's Near-To function, simply enter a complete post code into the in Where box. AskAlix will then return matching businesses, sorted by location.
